Mid January 2022, my husband Fred and I accepted an invitation of our dear old friend Johan Klopper (Kloppies) and his wife Marina to join them on a trip to the Kruger National Park. As we are always keen on watching animals in their natural habitat and we still love travelling this beautiful country we packed our Toyota Landcruiser and off we went!
Kloppies and Marina used this trip also to find new places to accommodate their clients of their company “Charter Us” so they also showed us the private game reserve Moditlo: a wonderful experience of close nature right on your doorstep!
We enjoyed the time: our friends and host were adorable like always and nature never looses its fascination!

Hi……My name is Gabriel, I’m 15 years old and from Austria, Europe. No, not Australia.
In February 2019 my family and I made a wonderful trip to Cape Town, South Africa. We stayed at the touristic but beautiful Waterfront and made daily excursions to get an impression of the surroundings. On two days, we went to the famous Cape of Good Hope and the eastern region of Stellenbosch and Hermanus, thanks to our amazing tour guide Mr. Johan Klopper.
I didn’t know much about South Africa before our journey, but who hasn’t heard of the Cape of Good Hope yet? Because of its prominence, we weren’t the only ones on South Africa’s most south-western point, but still we enjoyed an amazing view over the Atlantic Ocean and took a must-picture in front of the well-known sign telling the place’s co-ordinates. After we had seen an ostrich completely unexpectedly beside the road ( in fact two ostriches ), we made a stop at the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen. Maybe it was so special because after all those touristic attractions we absolutely were the only ones on that gigantic beach. And in my opinion, the beach itself was worth the whole trip! Johann and his wife surprised us with a delicious picnic which they had prepared just for us.
After a stunning first day, the second one followed. We drove to a region that was completely unknown to us so far, through the village of Stellenbosch as far as Hermanus, a beautiful small city situated at the sea. We took a bath in the ( ok VERY) cold water and drove up a hill from where we had a fantastic view. It was a long driving day, but also from inside the car we saw the beautiful coastline as well as a landscape that looked like the moon’s surface, caused by awful fires several weeks ago. I learned that they’re quite common over here, especially during the dry season of February.
All in all, it was an unforgettable week for me. Thanks to Johann, I learned a lot about the country. Its history and its present way of life, about the people, I heard many new stories and saw places I would never have come to if we would be driving ourselves! Etwas mehr als 150 Weingüter sind in der Region beheimatet. Johan Klopper ist wohl der einzige Mensch in Stellenbosch, der sie ausnahmslos alle für Verkostungen besucht hat. Damit ist der freundliche Bure ein Glücksfall für unternehmungslustige Winelands-Besucher, denn Klopper veranstaltet individuelle Weintouren. Auch für größere Gruppen, aber am liebsten für zwei bis vier Teilnehmer. Die Trips dauern mehrere Stunden, er bringt seine Gäste dabei mit Kellermeistern zusammen.

We found Johan in the exquisite German Magazine ” Der Feinschmecker” just before leaving to South Africa, and booked a wine tour with him. We left the choice of wineries to him, and he showed us Glenelly with its glass museum, Delaire Graff with wonderful art, Glen Carlou and Neethlingshof with an amazing price ratio.
This was an experience we will never forget!
Another exquisite winery with exceptional food we visited was Creation Wines in the Hemel & Aarde Valley, near Hermanus. Another art gallery which enchanted us was the Cavalli Estate near Stellenbosch.
